I have been clean and sober for twenty-six years. I am post-polio and fibromyalgic. I have some disabilities. I use a wheelchair much of the time. I was born in 1949. Truman was President. Pius XII(Eugenio Pacelli) was Pope.
My family was involved in the American Civil Rights Movement. I was a hippie until I went nuts from woman's oppression sickness. I protested the war in Vietnam, was involved in the early Women's Movement, had my consciousness raised more than anyone could stand. I majored in Women's Studies in college. I speak Spanish. I play Scrabble. I collect traditional Latin American Folk Music and small percussion instruments. I love stories. I read everything.
I was in the early Gay Liberation Movement in the mid 60's, was a dyke activist into the 80s. I wrote for Gay Newspapers. I did crisis intervention volunteer work for fourteen years. I was a great typesetter! I went to the Michigan Women's Music Festival with my mom!
AIDS came. I learned a lot about caring for sick and dying friends by doing. I learned a lot from them and from those experiences. I was involved in support groups for Families and Friends of Persons with AIDS. I grieved a long time. I got to use that experience for several years caring for my mom in her final illness, and was grateful. I became disabled.
At fifty, I started a monthly Lesbian Brunch Group. I volunteered at my local public library, and at the local homeless shelter. I would really rather be dancing, but we all have limitations.
Belief-o-Matic says I am, by belief, 100% Quaker, though I attend a lot of different churches in the course of a year. I belong to small faith communities. I like to read, think and pray.
Having been a proofreader, typographer, editor and publisher, I have a favorite poem:
I have a spelling checker
It came with my pea see
It planely Marx four my revue
misteaks I cannot sea.
I ran this pome thru it
I'm shirr your please to know
It's letter perfect en it's way
My checker tolled me sew.
